What’s your Google pagerank? Maybe the better question is what is a Google pagerank? I’m no SEO (Search Engine Optimization) expert, but Google pagerank is a number 0 – 10 that Google ranks pages on level of importance. Google will use this rank to determine where a website is displayed based on web searches.
We have been working over the past couple of months to increase our page rank so The Sweet Tooth shows up in a better position when someone is looking for cupcakes. We focused on two major search engines, Google and Yahoo. The first search terms we wanted to increase our position on were “wedding cupcakes Kansas City.” We thought those were terms potential brides would enter in their search. A couple of months ago, you would have to go through pages and pages of links before you found a link to The Sweet Tooth. Well the work paid off, we are now on the first page in a Google search and the second page with Yahoo! We also ask brides how they heard about us, and recently one said they just did a web search and came across our site. They said they searched in the past and never saw us!!!
One way Google ranks importance is the number of different web pages that link to the site in question. They also consider the content and page rank of the sites that link to the page. We have been working to get more links to sites with comparable content and adding content to our website as often as we can. Also blogging helps, so this challenge should help in the long run.
We are not done yet, I mean Google still says our blog and our website have 0 out of 10 for importance. We are working hard to increase those numbers, and eventually we want to be in the number 1 spot! For now we are happy with the results and love the fact that it’s paying off with more people finding us!
