Today, the title has to start with the letter “C” and we had lots of words to choose from. What other words you ask? Um, how about CUPCAKES, cookies, chocolate, cherry, coconut, coffee, or cooking soda? Ok, I made that last one up, but it’s obvious we had a few options that are vital pieces of our business. I went with charity because it’s not only important to our business, but to our family as well. Charity is a very important part of our lives, and I wanted to take some time to write about it.
Where should I begin? I received The Living the Mission award from United Health Group in 2009 for starting the Why Pink Campaign with my wife Amy. The award recognizes employees that embody the company’s core values, and our commitment to giving back and helping others inspired many people in the organization. Over the past 3 years, we helped raise over $10,000 through Why Pink that was donated directly to charities that support breast health. The Sweet Tooth also donated a portion of their sales to Komen Kansas City last October, Breast Health Awareness Month.
We are very fortunate; we have two smart, well behaved, healthy kids with another lil cupcake on the way. We have a beautiful home in a safe neighborhood. We have a great support system that includes family, close friends and customers. We have so much to be thankful for, so much good in our lives that it seems like it’s more than we need. We are happy to pass some of the extra love to others, and we do it as often as we can. I would list the charities we have worked with, but the list would end up being longer than the list of cupcake flavors we offer. I will take some time to discuss a couple of events we having coming up, and provide some ways to join us in the giving fun!
In a couple of weeks The Sweet Tooth will have a booth at Spring Into Hope A Shopping Event to benefit Marian Hope Center. Marian Hope’s mission is to give children and their families the tools to succeed. On Friday April 15th we will have samples available of some of our most popular cupcake flavors. Please come to the event, and stop by our booth to refuel after you have done some shopping. The Sweet Tooth has also pledged to donate 10% of all sales in the month of April to Marian Hope Center. Every order you place this month will also help Marian Hope achieve their mission. This includes orders for T-Shirts on our website.
The Sweet Tooth will also have a booth at Susan G Komen for the Cure’s Survivor Luncheon on May 7th. This event allows breast cancer survivors and their families time to celebrate and unwind with some retail therapy. Amy and I have a long history with Komen Kansas City and we are honored that The Sweet Tooth was selected as one of the vendors at this event.
I’m going to end with a quote that summarizes how we feel about giving back to our community. “We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.” Sir Winston Churchill We are so thrilled that The Sweet Tooth allows us to make a living and a life at the same time.
