We recently achieved a major milestone in social media. We surpassed the 1,000 fan mark and we appreciate each and every one of you.  We were watching closely after we made it to 999.  Next time we looked we were at 1,003, it all happened too fast.  As always we have some great prizes to give away in a fun contest!  The grand prize will be a $100 Visa gift card!  We will have cupcake sweatshirts and t-shirts to give away, as well as gift certificates for cupcakes!  We will blog more about the contest in a couple days, stay tuned to find out how to enter!

C is for Cookie

Do you remember the song Cookie Monster sang? “C is for cookie, that’s good enough for me!”  Well at The Sweet Tooth, C is for a lot of things, like Cupcakes, Coffee and now… Cookies!  On Friday, February 3 we will launch our cookie line that includes 6 different flavors.  The cookies are pretty big, about 5 inches, just like our cupcakes they are made from scratch, and we bake them fresh daily!  The flavors are Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, Oatmeal Raisin, Sugar Cookie (plain and frosted) White Chocolate Chip & Monster Cookie,  If you are wondering, what’s a monster cookie… it’s a cookie that has just about everything in it!  It’s like Amy took the leftovers from all the other cookie batters and mixed them up.  It has peanut butter, M&Ms, even oatmeal, it’s a cookie you have to try!  We have a great special going all weekend long buy one cookie, get one free!  This offer is good Friday the 3^rd, Saturday the 4^th and Sunday February 5^th with a limit of 24 total cookies per customer. Our cookies are only $1 each!

Yesterday I asked everyone that came in to tell me about the best cupcake they ever ate.  We love hearing about what makes your taste buds happy, even if it’s not a flavor we currently offer. You never know when we will be inspired to try out something new!  So what flavors were you looking for yesterday?  Boston Cream Pie, Wedding Cake, chocolate, chocolate, and chocolate!  You love our Hawaiian Treat, Peanut Butter Dream, or anything topped with cream cheese frosting…at least yesterday’s customers did, tomorrow there may be a new favorite.  There are so many of you looking for a sugar free option and several wishing that there was a gluten free cupcake as well.  Keep your ideas coming, we want to know what our fans are looking for!  Didn’t get a chance to tell us about your dream cupcake yet?  Leave a comment on here or better yet, stop by the store this week and let us know what makes your taste buds happy!

Thank you to everyone that shared their ideas, wishes, and favorites with me yesterday.  I met people who are working their way around the metro testing out cupcakes, and others that just discovered gourmet cupcakes when they found our store for the first time.  Whether you are a first time customer, or the fan that stops by right before closing a few times a week, I enjoyed getting to know you better!

I have a hard time pulling myself away from that dreamy cupcake, but lucky for me I work at The Sweet Tooth now so there are more opportunities to expand my horizons when it comes to cupcake flavors.  This weekend I stepped way, way outside my cupcake comfort zone and had the Very Berry flavor.  This cupcake is made with real strawberries, and I like strawberries but I prefer them to be covered in chocolate whenever possible!  A strawberry cupake just didn’t seem to be calling out my name.

Wow, why did I wait so long to try this one?  This cupcake is incredibly fresh and taste like actual strawberries, not strawberry flavoring, but real strawberries that have been hand chosen by Amy and chopped up right in our kitchen at the store.  I was worried that the cupcake itself would overpower the strawberries, but that is not the case at all.  Delicious!  I was immediately sad I had only bought one to take home and was wondering how I could keep it hidden from my husband so I wouldn’t have to share.

Do you have a go-to flavor that you always find yourself heading back to each time you walk into our store?  Perhaps you are a red velvet fan and always order the Rouge cupcake, or maybe you like to keep it simple with the Vanilla Vanilla?  I’m still a big fan of the Peanut Butter Dream, but this week you will find me sneaking in a bite of the Very Berry whenever I can, and I will be buying two of them next time because it turns out my husband loves them just as much as I do.

Challenge yourself to try a new flavor this week and then let us know how it compares to your normal go-to cupcake.

Friday January 20^th and Saturday January 21^st we are offering a free cookie or a free cup of coffee with purchase (Limit one per customer).  Just like our cupcakes, our cookies are made from scratch.  We have 3 flavors to choose from Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter and Oatmeal Raisin.  Get some milk to go along with your treats as well! 

KC Unveiled Bridal Show

The Sweet Tooth will have a booth at the KC Unveiled Bridal show on Sunday January 22.  The show is at the Cotillion in Blue Springs from 11AM until 3PM and admission is free.  If you know anyone that is planning a wedding, tell them to stop by.  There will be great vendors there, and we will have cupcakes to sample!  1717 Burdett Crossing – Blue Springs, MO 64015.

We just got our coffee maker installed and we have some pretty good coffee.  Amy and I are not coffee drinkers, so we would not know the difference.  The coffee we selected has a strong flavor and compliments our cupcakes perfectly.  You still have a couple hours to take advantage of this offer and try our coffee for free!  Saturday, January 14 get a free cup of coffee with any purchase.  Come in for your free cup of coffee.

Grand Opening

We had our grand opening last week Saturday and had an amazing turnout!  We had a line outside when we opened our door and had a consistent flow of customers all day.  We almost had to close the shop at about 2PM after only being open for 4 hours.  We only had 12 cupcakes left on the shelf and Amy was working feverishly in the kitchen to keep up with demand.  I had to run out and pick up 300 pounds of flour and sugar, along with butter and cream cheese.  We were able to restock the shelves and kept selling cupcakes until we closed at 8PM.  We ended up selling over 1,500 cupcakes that day and we were all tired by the end of the day.  We want to thank everyone that came out to try our cupcakes, and we hope you keep coming back for more and more cupcakes.

3100 D South 7 Highway ~ Blue Springs, MO 64014

It was not very long ago when Amy and I went to scope out locations for our store front.  We got with Judy Q to show us what was available in Blue Springs.  She was excited about the spaces available in the Palo Center, and scheduled an appointment for the owner to show us the empty spaces.  Of the four spaces they showed us, we selected space D for many reasons.  It was right next to a hair salon, a great source of consistent customers, we had a nice high location for our sign, and an overhang for outdoor enjoyment during the mild months.  After some discussion, Amy and I made an offer and the owner accepted!  We signed the lease on October 18, 2011, my birthday, and set January 7 as our Grand Opening date!  We knew we had a lot to get done before our Grand Opening and we did not plan on letting anything slow us down!  Well, I guess we did slow down a little when our third child was born a week later, but only a little. 

3100 D South 7 Highway, it was our new address and I wrote it down several times trying to take it all in.  It was a space that was never occupied so we had a blank canvas to work with.  We knew exactly what we wanted, and the contractor got to work quickly.  I remember stopping by one day while we were in the hospital having a baby, and the ceiling was already painted!  They framed out the walls and had all the pipes installed for the sinks we would need.  Everything was moving quickly, and we got more and more excited with everyday that passed.  Most of the work being done at this time was by the contractor, but I did go over a couple nights to install the cable for our computer network and telephone lines. 

After the Thanksgiving break, the contractors got busy hanging sheetrock.  We have some high ceilings, but they got it all taken care of in about a day.  Then the mudding and sanding started and they finished just in time for me to paint during the weekend.  A friend of mine did most of the painting and I tasked myself with tackling the striped wall.  I wanted to make sure it looked good, it will be the focal point when you walk in the door!  Amy asked me a few times if I was sure I could do it, I said yes and figured, “What do I have to lose?”  It was a long weekend and we went through many gallons of paint.  We got it all done, and I was ready for my next task.

The weekends were flying by, and not matter how much we were getting done there was more to do.  I was busy working on the cabinets and Amy helped by painting doors and trim.  We cleaned often, but there was dust everywhere!  Amy got a pretty bad sinus infection and was out of commission for a couple days.  I made sure I stayed hydrated by drinking a lot of water, the downside… the water was not on yet in our space, so no toilet.  I tried to make it home by 8:30 each night to put the kids in bed, but sometimes that did not happen.  The cabinets were now done and we moved all the equipment into the space.  Amy painted the cabinets and everything was coming together. 

I arrived at the space at 7AM on Christmas Eve to meet up with our refrigeration guys and electrician to hook up the walk-in freezer and convection oven.  I did a lot of touch up painting, sweeping and cleaning up the floors.  I ended the night by painting the floors and left after 10PM.  It was a long day, but some much was accomplished.  The days after Christmas we got the counters installed, shelves put up, floorboards installed and a lot of cleaning.  We hooked up the phones and computers, and I was proud that they worked.  The last thing we did before we were ready to open was install our electric menu and frame.  We were ready to open… just in time. 

There is no way we would have been able to do this alone.  There were more people that helped us, then we would ever be able to name.  Every time I walk into The Sweet Tooth, I am amazed that it is real and open for business.  We would like to thank everyone for the support and help that allowed us to realize this dream.  We could not have done this without you… Thank You!

Hello Sweet Tooth fans!  This past Saturday we had our big Grand Opening celebration!!  A big THANK YOU goes out to everyone that stopped by to check out the store, wish us luck, and of course purchase cupcakes.  We are so grateful that you were there to celebrate with us and we are looking forward to getting to know each of you better as you stop back by the store in the upcoming weeks.

When we opened the doors at 10am there was a line of people waiting to come in and you just kept coming all day long!  We put the kitchen to the test baking up pan after pan, mixing up huge bowls of frosting, and doing our very best to keep up with all of you.  All the hard work that went into that day was made worth it each time one of you came in and shared with us how excited you were to try one (or two, or three…) of our cupcakes.  Your smiles kept us going!

Opening Soon

I’m sorry, it has been a very, very long time since I made a blog post.  We have been busy to say the least.  We are working hard to open our store in Blue Springs next year.  The grand opening celebration is set for Saturday January 7.  We have put a lot of planning into this location, and we are sure you will love it.  Put the date on your calendar and stop by.

The Sweet Tooth is Eastern Jackson County’s newest Cupcakery located in Blue Springs. Family owned and operated, we take pride in creating a delicious variety of gourmet cupcakes and other desserts from scratch. If you like to bake, have a positive attitude, are outgoing, reliable, and possess exceptional customer service skills then you may be perfect for our team.

Duties include:

Baking/decorating cupcakes for the store, birthdays, weddings, and other events

Front counter assistance operating register and serving desserts and drinks to customers

Opening and closing duties

Cleaning, prep and other duties as assigned

Must be able to work evenings and weekends
